ECLT partners with iDE and FAA to reach over 32,000 children, farmers and families in Mozambique, focusing on communities that are at particular risk of child labour. The project's approach aims to improve access to and quality of education for children, support parents to strengthen and diversify their incomes, raise awareness of the dangers of child labour and support National Action Plans for lasting and wide-reaching impact against child labour.
Model Farm Schools are a sustainable and effective way to help young people improve their livelihoods by empowering rural youth to increase their profits, invest in diverse crops or livestock and, in some cases, become business owners. ECLT is committed to working with young people in agricultural communities where tobacco is grown, to build capacities and job skills relevant to local markets, helping them secure decent work.

Agriculture is the largest sector in Malawi and provides an income for 84% of the total population. Children in rural families often work alongside their parents to contribute to their household incomes and meet basic needs, sometimes doing work which is both hard and hazardous at their age. Nearly 2 million children are doing work that puts their health, safety and development at risk in Malawi. Here's what ECLT are doing about it.
Since 2013, ECLT’s project in Uganda has reached over 110,000 children in the fight against child labour. Building on these successes, ECLT will continue to work with implementing partner UWESO to launch an extension and plans to support over 138,800 people in the next three years.
In October 2018, the first meeting of the ‘Partnership in Action Against Child Labour in Agriculture’ (PAACLA), was held, bringing together relevant national and local stakeholders against child labour. The meeting was hosted by the Indonesian State Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS) and supported by ECLT and partners.
In Malawi, the ECLT Foundation has carried out a number of projects including building classrooms, renovating and constructing bridges, setting up Village Savings and Loan Associations, providing school feeding programmes and vocational training. These projects have had significant impact and have contributed to the removal of over 19,000 children from child labour since 2014 alone.
